Throwing Techniques Course
Join Iona at her studio for an immersive 4/6/8-week pottery wheel workshop focused exclusively on throwing techniques. This course is designed for those looking to master the potter's wheel and create various simple forms, suitable for beginners and improvers.
Course Overview
Throughout the duration of the sessions, participants will explore the following key techniques focusing on simple shapes:
Centering: Learn how to properly center clay on the wheel for optimal throwing.
Opening: Master the technique of opening up the centered clay to form the base of your piece.
Pulling Walls: Develop skills to pull the walls of your form to achieve desired height and thickness.
Shaping: Experiment with different shapes, from cylinders to bowls, to enhance your throwing repertoire.
Trimming: Understand how to trim your pieces for a finished look and improved functionality.
Glazing: Basic glazing techniques to add color and finish to your pottery pieces.
Class Structure
Each session lasts 2 hours and accommodates two to three participants (those who you booked with) , ensuring ample one-on-one guidance. The small class size allows for a tailored experience, catering to individual interests and learning speeds. Each session will have a detailed demonstration and one to one guidance throuhtout.
Practice and Firing
While each participant is allowed to have one piece fired per making session, you are encouraged to practice as much as you like during the sessions. This hands-on approach will help solidify your techniques and boost your confidence on the wheel.
This balance allows you to experiment freely while still taking home finished work.
